 So, what are Ear Candles? - I hear you ask

Well, ear candles are not like conventional candles - they are hollow for a start! They are usually made out of beeswax and are shaped into a conical cylinder about 10-15 inches in length.

Primarily, ear candling is a therapeutic technique used for relaxation purposes but it also has several health benefits.

Where did Ear Candling originate?

The use of ear candles (often called Hopi ear candles) has been documented right down through the ages. Archaeological digs have unearthed ear candles made of clay which suggests that the art of ear candling has been in existence for thousands of years.

The origin therefore remains unknown but it is clear that ear candling has been around for a long, long time!

The Perception of Ear Candling!

It is fair to say that ear candling has had a mixed press being seen as unsafe by many. But isn't it fair to say that tattooing and piercing were also seen this way? As it stands, the only possible hazard is that of burning wax dripping onto your face!

There have been some instances of people claiming that their ear has been filled with wax from the candle. However, there are far too many people that say the opposite and it would appear that maybe the skeptics are just looking for a reason to dismiss this thoroughly harmless relaxation technique. 

So, What are Ear Candles for Exactly?

Another misconception is that the use of ear candles is to remove ear wax from the ear at the time of the procedure.

This is NOT what they are designed to do!

No, they are used to bring relaxation to the user and to release blocked energy and tension. Many people have also said that they have found relief from blocked sinuses, ear aches and sinusitis, although this is not medically proven!

It has also been found by many that over the days following the ear candling procedure that ear wax does come out of the ear - this I believe is more down to the bodies natural energies being realigned causing the wax to be expelled from the body.
